Originally built in 1596 as a large hunting lodge by Ferdinando I De Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, Tenuta di Artimino embodies the noblest Tuscan way of life, surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards, olive groves and ancient trees. In a dominant position over the hills and the Montalbano vineyards, located in a spot once sacred to the Etruscans, Medici Villa La Ferdinanda is the heart of the estate: a unique place where history, art and nature come together harmoniously and where echoes of a fascinating past persist through the Villa’s frescoes by the late-renaissance painters Domenico Cresti and Bernardino Poccetti. This impressive residence boasts a rich history from the Medici noble family memories, to precious recollections from historic personalities such as Leonardo da Vinci, who designed the rotisserie that can still be admired today, and Galileo Galilei who stayed here, invited in 1608 by Ferdinando I De Medici to instruct his son Cosimo in mathematics. Representing the link between the various land holdings of the Medici family, the majestic Medici Villa La Ferdinanda at Tenuta di Artimino is today recognized as Unesco World Heritage Site. A faithful restoration has transformed the Paggeria Medicea, former home of the pages of the Medici family and guest house of the seventeenth century, into a classy hotel, enhancing the precious original elements such as fireplaces, sandstone sinks and terracotta floors. The hotel has 36 rooms, each with private access. All of the 59 apartments, housed in the historic premises of the old farm and in the neighboring manor houses, are located in the medieval borgo of Artimino, connected by an evocative tree-lined avenue to the complex where Medici Villa La Ferdinanda and the Paggeria Medicea hotel are found. Savour a unique experience surrounded by the hospitality of the Borgo life, where the pace slows down and the noises disappear. All the Borgo apartments have an independent entrance and parking inside the borgo as well as kitchenette, access to the swimming pool and solarium. A private area with a breathtaking view over the valley and the vineyards, to enjoy in complete intimacy: these are the Le Fagianaie apartments, two farmhouses from which six luxury apartments have been created in a soothing setting surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. These unique lodges are perfectly integrated into the countryside landscape. The perfect choice for a stay of complete privacy with family or friends.
